Lieutenant Commander Roderick Harvey were built with a glittering naval career, a loving family and lots of buddies. But he lost all of them as he developed manic depression, a terrifying illness that affects around one percent of people.
Here, he describes how he won back his existence.
The scene was certainly one of glittering beauty and majesty. The Royal Yacht Britannia was half way through her annual tour from the Western Isles of Scotland, and individuals aboard had put together for supper.

Until 1988, he'd loved an excellent career. He supported the Full to Canada and sailed around Italia with Princess Diana.
He and the wife were built with a boy along with a daughter, along with a beautiful home in Plymouth. After departing Britannia in 1985, Mr Harvey was marketed to commander, and moved to Nato's planning headquarters, in Northwood, Middlesex.
It had been during this highly pressurised atmosphere that his depression started in 1988.
Doctors don't know precisely what causes manic depression, even though it can run in families.

'The treatment methods are questionable because nobody is sure how it operates, but within days, I felt this dark cloud hanging over me lift away.'
Following a time of convalescence, Mr Harvey was published to Denmark. But inside a couple of several weeks he'd been flown to RAF Wroughton for additional ECT. This time around he understood his naval career was finished.

On October 28,1992, he walked from the home permanently and required the ferry to France. 'I did not tell anybody where I had been going. Manic depression tears families apart. The kids have discovered my illness very difficult to be prepared for.A

On Feb 14, 1994, Mr Harvey ended up from the hospital and walked gradually but actively towards the nearby dual carriageway. He represented greater than a minute, watching the automobiles. Then, within the distance, he saw a lorry coming towards him. 'I been with them i believe that the lorry would have the ability to obliterate the discomfort,A he states. 'A vehicle simply wouldn't be heavy enough.
'I anxiously waited with patience as numerous cars went by, then, because the lorry contacted, I told myself as soon as had come. I wasn't whatsoever bit frightened.'
